Beach Trip June 2013

We enjoyed our trip back to the beach with Nate's family last week.  It was so much fun!  We stayed in Santa Rosa this year, on the beach again and had a pool.  I'm going to write about our trip and post some pictures here, but then I will post some pictures each day the rest of the week that go with the stories.

We arrived on Saturday and went out to the beach first thing because we heard there was rain coming.  I had a feeling since Monkey doesn't like to be dirty that she would hate the beach.  I was RIGHT!  The first time down there I tried to put her down and as soon as her feet hit the sand, she started crying.  It was that way all week!  She never did warm up to the beach, even sitting on a towel wasn't fun for her.  She didn't want sand to touch her anywhere.  She was happy however sitting with us in our chairs and we enjoyed that.

Sunday it rained all day, and I mean RAINED.  The kind of rain that you fear is set in and is going to stay all week, but thankfully that was our only day of rain.

Monday was still cloudy, but nice enough to spend our day outside.

This is pretty much the routine for the week.  We would head down to the beach for the morning. Enjoy sitting under the tent until around 11:00 then head up to the pool to swim until lunch.  Our little Monkey may hate the beach, but she sure does LOVE to swim.  The pool was still a little cold for her in the mornings most days, but she still loved it.  She liked playing with her cousins in the pool and letting her daddy and I carry her around the pool.  By the end of the week she even got more adventurous and starting letting us hold her while she "floated" on her back or let us pass her back and forth with her "swimming" across.  It was so much fun to watch the joy in her face in the pool.

On Wednesday morning our routine changed a bit.  While sitting under the tent she started trying to tell us that she wanted to go in the ocean.  We weren't sure she really meant it, but we decided to try.  Well mean it she did!  She LOVED the ocean and loved riding the waves - the bigger the better.  Wednesday and Thursday the waves were perfect and calm for her to be out there.  She stayed out there almost an hour both days.  This mommy doesn't really care for the ocean, but Monkey had so much fun that I will have to grow to love it with her!

Eating was good as always too.  We ordered pizza two different nights from Jordano's Pizza it was so yummy!  Monday night we headed out to Dewey Destin's and had some great seafood.  That will definitely be a place we return.  On Wednesday, Nate and I had a date night to celebrate my birthday.  We went to Pompano Joe's.  In the past I have not been impressed with their food, but I have always loved the atmosphere.  Surprisingly we had a really good meal and a great night to eat on the beach!  We also got ice cream from our new favorite place down there, Blue Mountain Creamery.

On Thursday night, we went with Doc and GaGa to take the girls to SunDog Books in Seaside.  GaGa loves to take the girls there each year and let them pick out a book.  After that, we headed to Eden Gardens.  It is a beautiful state park with moss growing in the trees, but we showed up right at dusk and we were eaten alive with huge flies!  We will have to go back again at a different part of the day.

By Friday our little Monkey was exhausted.  She even fell asleep on her daddy's chest while we sat under the tent that morning.  She was grumpus all day and ended the evening with a fever.  Poor girl was so good to take a few nice pictures on the beach that evening and then she was done for the night.  Come to find out, I took her to the doc when we got back from the beach and she had the fever because she has a version of Hand, Foot and Mouth.  Poor thing was really sick and we just didn't know because she didn't break out until we were on our way home.

We had a wonderful trip.  It was good time spent with family and a much needed time to rest and relax.  Thanks Doc and GaGa for such a great week!
