Houdini Strikes Again!

What a little Houdini Pumpkin has become.  About a month ago she started breaking out of the sleep sacks that we had for her.  So we decided it was time to try to Miracle Blanket.
At first I thought this looked like a straight jacket because it has those extra little flaps that hold her arms down, but with her breaking out of every other swaddle, we decided it was time to try this.  We tried this about the same time we were getting into a good routine and about a week after using this is when she started sleeping through the night.

Now those two extra arm flaps go around her arms and under her back.  Then there is a flap that wraps around her almost 3 times.  It's a secure swaddle.  There is no velcro - you just wrap her tight and she lays on the flap to keep it down.  This was a great blanket and we loved it for awhile - that is until about 2 nights ago.  (I think with the next baby - Lord willing - we will start out with this).

What we didn't take into account is that Pumpkin hits a time in the middle of the night where she really starts to move.  For two mornings straight she woke up about an hour early with both arms out - you read that right - BOTH ARMS OUT - COMPLETELY.  The first morning we tried to let her get back to sleep and she couldn't.  The next morning, we went in and swaddled her again before she got too upset and I watched on the monitor.  She rolls from side to side pulling at her arms until she  gets out of the blanket.

We couldn't have this for 2 reasons.  First, there is a lot of fabric that comes undone and could potentially be bad for her.  Second, she keeps waking herself up - that's not good for either of us!

So I did a little research and there is a product out there called the SwaddlePod.
I haven't wanted to use this product either because it looked even more constricting.  But after I read the reviews, I decided to give it a try.  One night in - it's pretty great.  It's very stretchy, so she can move her arms all about and even get her hands right up at her head, but she can't get out of the sack, so it keeps her from hitting herself in the face.  I think she is almost ready to not be swaddled, but this will be a good transition for her.  She still had her hour of movement this morning and fussed a little bit, but was able to get herself back to sleep on her own.

We will see how Houdini does with this one.  It shouldn't be long before she finds her thumb - so hopefully she will be unswaddled soon anyway!!
