We took Pumpkin to the doctor today for her 2 week visit. She is healthy and growing well.
She weighs 7 pounds and 15 oz. and is 21.5 inches long now. She is in the about the 30th percentile in weight and the 85th percentile in height. Do you think she got her height from her daddy?? It will be interesting to see how that plays out as she grows.
She is smiling a lot in her sleep, which is something that they asked about. (The nurse said not to let people tell me that it was from gas - they really do smile, just not at you yet!) She is tracking things with her eyes and starting to stare at us more. Her hearing is still good - she turns when she hears people talking to her. That nasty umbilical cord has finally fallen off so she can have a real bath now! She is lifting her head up whenever she can and trying to get more control. Her hands have found their way to her mouth more this week - so it will interesting to see if she will start sucking her thumb or fingers soon.
We did go with one concern today - she is spitting up quite a bit. It was nice to have a doctor who actually listened to me today instead of just telling me that it probably looks like a lot more than it is. He was not concerned with volume, but frequency. She is still content and still only cries when she is hungry, but he said with the amount of her spitting up - that it could change quickly. He said that it could be the beginning of reflux and if we noticed her starting to become fussy after she ate and then cycling into fussy while feeding, spitting up and wanting to feed more frequently - then we might have to put her on an acid reducer. But for now - he switched her formula to one that has rice starch in it so it is thicker in hopes that it will stay down better. Thankfully he doesn't think it's a milk intolerance. So we will give this 2 weeks and see how she does. Already with the first bottle today - she spit up less. Now if we can just get rid of the nasty hiccups!
For now though, we are thankful for a healthy baby girl that is gaining weight, eats well and sleeps really well. She's wonderful and I cannot express again the importance of loving and trusting your pediatrician. So thankful for him! Now if mommy can just make it to the 2 month visit - eek! That seems like a long time until we go back!
